Meet Our Pastor

Rev. Joyce McCormick

Pastor Joyce  was born in 1956, to Jim and Lyndell Grimes.  She is the oldest of four children.  If you ask her where she was born or grew-up, she'll tell you "all over west Texas."  Her father was a construction plumber, and where he went, the family went.  This resulted in Joyce attending many schools until she graduated from high school in Abilene, Texas as a member of the National Honor Society.
She met her husband Chris McCormick while attending McMurry University in Abilene, Texas, where she graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology.
Although she was a life long Methodist, like many pastors, God had been preparing her for ordained ministry through her life experiences.  She answered the call to ministry and started seminary when she was thirty-five years old.  She graduated from Austin Presbyterian Theological Seminary with a Master of Divinity degree in 1997.
Within the United Methodist Southwest Texas Conference, Pastor Joyce McCormick has been blessed to be appointed to the following churches:
  • Bertram and Chapel Hill United Methodist Churches, Pastor (1997-1999)
  • Bertram United Methodist Church, Bertram, TX, Pastor (1999-2003)
  • First United Methodist Church, El Campo, TX, Pastor (2003-2010)
  • First United Methodist Church, Elgin, TX, Senior Pastor (2010 - 2015)
  • New Fountain United Methodist Church (2015- present)
She is a trained Stephen Ministry Leader and served as the Conference Spiritual Director for the Walk to Emmaus.
Pastor Joyce enjoys reading, knitting, quilting and the company of her two very spoiled dogs, Snickers and Lucy.
Among the many gifts and talents with which God has blessed Pastor Joyce, none are more meaningful to her than teaching and guiding each person she meets as they grow in their relationship with God.
